Crime Statistics

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) compiles an annual report of crime statistics for all counties in the state. In 2017, Alexander County had a total number of 617 crimes reported. This number included 62 violent crimes and 555 property crimes. Violent crimes included one murder, three rapes, two robberies, and 56 aggravated assaults. Property crimes reported include 193 burglaries, 327 larcenies, and 35 motor vehicle thefts.

The 2017 crime figures represent a slight decline in the crime rate over five years in the county. Between 2013 and 2017, Alexander County experienced a slight decline in five out of seven major crimes. Rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and larceny rates declined by 25%, 60%, 5%, 18%, and 2% respectively.
