Crime Numbers

Crime statistics for all counties in North Carolina are collated by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Its latest crime data for Iredell County are for 2021. That year, the county recorded 142 violent crimes and 798 property crimes. In comparison to 2013 crime numbers, both the violent crime and property crime rates in the county increased by 69.4% and 8.2% respectively. A closer look at the reported Part I crimes for 2021 shows that there were 2 murders, 11 rapes, 9 robberies, and 120 aggravated assaults. Iredell County also recorded 271 burglaries, 474 larcenies, and 53 motor vehicle thefts in the same year.

The most recent five-year crime trend for Iredell county indicates that the only two crimes to record lower numbers in 2017 compared to 2013 are rape (23.1%) and burglary (17.6%). In the same period, murder (600%), robbery (57.8%), aggravated assault (79.9%), larceny (20.5%), and motor vehicle theft (38.3%) rates jumped.

Criminal Records

The Iredell County Clerk of Superior Court Office provides certified criminal record reports for the county. This certified background check costs $25 each. To make a request, complete the Form AOC-CR-314 and submit it to the clerk's office in person or by mail at:

Cash and card payments are accepted for in-person requests while money orders and certified checks are accepted for mail-in requests. The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court office also provides public access computers for anyone to search and print uncertified copies of criminal history records. Records provided by the Clerk’s Office are countywide reports.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) provides a non-certified statewide criminal record report for $14. To make a request for this report, complete a fingerprint card and the Right to Review form. Only US Mail requests are accepted. Iredell County police reports are provided by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the police departments serving the City of Statesville and Mooresville town. The Sheriff’s Office provides copies of its reports free of charge and makes them available on request at any of its locations in the county. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office manages the Iredell County Detention Center which is the main correctional facility for the county. The jail is located at:

To find an inmate incarcerated at the jail, use the inmate locator tool provided by the Sheriff’s Office. Friends and family can deposit funds into an inmate’s account using the kiosk in the main jail lobby which is always available. They can make credit/debit card deposits by calling (866) 232-1899. Relations can also send funds online. To do so, they need to provide the Facility ID number (228687) and the inmate’s ID number.

Iredell County has a unified court system that consists of a Superior Court and a District Court. Both trial courts in Iredell County belong to the 22A Judicial District of North Carolina. The two courts hold sessions in the same locations in the county. These locations are:

Vital Records

Iredell County divorce records from 1958 to the present are available at the North Carolina Vital Records Office of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The DHHS charges $24 per copy payable by money order, certified check, or business check. When ordering copies of an Iredell County divorce record, complete the application form and mail it along with the payment to:

The office is open to the public between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. For copies of divorce records older than 1958, contact the Iredell County Clerk of Superior Court Office (address above).

Iredell County marriage, birth, and death records are also maintained by the Vital Records Office of the DHHS. The office has Iredell marriage records from 1962 to the present, birth records from 1913 to the present, and death records from 1930 to the present. Certified copies of all records are provided at $24 per copy and requests are accepted as described above for divorce records. When ordering a copy of marriage or death records from the Vital Records office, use the same application form provided for divorce records. The office has provided a separate application form for requesting birth records.

The Iredell County Register of Deeds provides certified copies of these records at $10 each and uncertified copies for 25 cents each. When making a request at the Register of Deeds Office, complete the Application for Certified Copies of Vital Records form, and submit it in person or by mail to either of the offices. The offices are open to the public from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Requesters can pay cash for in-person orders while a mail-in request should be accompanied by a check for the fee. Make sure to include a copy of a valid ID in the request.

Are Property Records Open to the Public in Iredell County?

Property records of Iredell County are available to anyone upon request to the Register of Deeds, the official custodian of the records. Requesters can also access these documents online, by mail, or in person. The U.S. state of North Carolina makes its public records available to its residents for inspection and copying. As stated in the Public Records Law individuals can request property records and no statement of purpose is needed.

Where and How to Find Property Records in Iredell County

The Iredell Register of Deeds office is the manager and custodian of numerous public records for the county, including property records like deeds, deeds of trust, plat maps, and powers of attorney. Requesters can locate all Iredell County land records created since December 1788 on an online database where documents are indexed using the names of the involved parties following Indexing rules outlined in the law. To find these records online, interested individuals should follow these steps:

  1. Visit the County’s Land Record web page
  2. Click on the “online database” link in the content body
  3. Click on the “Create an Account” link in the sign-in box on the left-hand side of the next page or sign in as a guest if using the portal for the first time. Return users can simply log in through the same sign-in box.
  4. This should lead to a page where you can access many types of Iredell County records by searching after entering all or part of the record subject’s name and date range.
  5. Limit the search by selecting an “Index Type” from the following options; PRE 95 CONDO PLATS, PRE 95 PLATS, PRE 95 REAL ESTATE, or CONSOLIDATED REAL PROPERTY.
  6. Selecting “CONSOLIDATED REAL PROPERTY” will pull up only land records for the subject that was created after 1995.
  7. Select PRE 95 CONDO PLATS, PRE 95 PLATS, or PRE 95 REAL ESTATE to access documents created before 1995.
  8. Click the button labeled “Search Directory”.
  9. Preview any of the results ranked in the list by clicking the paper icon located in the column labeled “Images”.

How to Look Up Iredell County Property Records

The office of the Iredell County Assessor maintains and grants the public access to an Online Repository of properties within the county. All Iredell Land Records from December 1788 to date are available on the online database. People can conduct a basic search, real estate search, tax bill search, or sales search on the portal. Users may have to click on the appropriate Search type button to continue a search. People can conduct basic searches using
