Property crimes reported include 309 burglaries, 784 larcenies, and 89 motor vehicle thefts. The 2017 crime figures represent a significant decline in crime rate over a 5-year period in the county. Between 2012 and 2017, there was a decline in 4 out of 7 major crimes in Wilkes County. Murder, robbery, burglary, and larceny rates decreased by 50%, 32%, 50%, and 41% respectively. While aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft rates increased by 4% and 33% respectively. The crime figures for rape remained the same.
