For older records, the State Library of North Carolina keeps an extensive collection of newspapers, dating back to the 18th century, on microfilm. From as far back as 1913, Davidson County Indexes to birth statistics are available in microfilm by Interlibrary Loan to state residents and on-site at the State Archives.

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural resources also hosts digital collections made possible by the State Archives and the State Library.
