Greene County is a small county that is positioned in the state of North Carolina. Its county seat is Snow Hill. There were only 20,451 people living in Greene County back in 2020.

It was formed in 1791.

It was originally named Glasgow County, for James Glasgow, North Carolina Secretary of State from 1777 to 1798. Glasgow County was then renamed Greene County in honor of Nathanael Greene, one of General Washington's right-hand men.
